Wiki Creation Guide

What do the toolbar symbols mean?
The black B means it types in bold.
The slanted I writes in italics.
The U with the line under it underlines your work.
The T with a paint palet allows you to change the color of your font our background.
Where it says normal to start is your font. You can change it, but there isn't as many font options as Microsoft Word.
The 1 2 3 and lines number your page.
The dots by lines make bullets.
The line below is made by the blue line button. It is after the bullet button.
The chain link makes a link.
The two links apart get rid of one.external image moz-screenshot.jpg
The picture scene is to add a picture. Click on it to go to the file for our grade. To put a picture in that file, go to google or bing. Right click on the picture and click copy the location. Then go to your page and click on external image. Do what the directions say. Now you have your picture! Ask Mr. Johnson if you need help. Below is a picture of Excalibur.
The rest of the things on the tool bar I don't know how to use. You won't need them anytime soon.

Where do I look for information?
I found that good search engines were Google and Ask.com.
From there after you type in your subject don't try and find information on the places that are trying to sell things.
A good place to look is the real Wikipedia site.

How do even start?
Make a plan.
Scan the information you have found and make a rough plan on what you are going to put.

Colors
When color your wiki I would recommend first finding all of your information and then adding the color. Once you are ready to add color first click the edit bar. Then highlight the section of text you want colored and click capital t in front of the Paint tray (the fourth icon on the edit bar). Then if you want to, you can change the font. After that click the top bar that is solid black. ( This will change the text color) Once the color wheel pops up you can select the color of your letters. Keep in mind that you won't want anything too light. Then click on the solid white bar. (This will change the color behind your text) This color is better of light.

If you don't like the colors shown then you can click on the circle inside of the ring on the color wheel. by spinning it around the ring you can get olors like teal, orange or blue-green. You can change the shade of the color by moving the small circle inside of the middle box. After choosing your colors you can preview what it will look like on the bottom of the color pop-up. Then if you are happy with it, click the "Apply Styles" button at the bottom.

When choosing colors you want to be careful. Color is a good thing but you want to be sure that you can still read it. One idea is to use a pattern. You want your colors to match each other. For example I did two Roman Emperors. Hadrian has bright and exciting colors but it is harder to read, where as Nerva has a set pattern. I put light green on dark green, light blue on dark blue and light purple on dark purple. It still looked exciting and it was also much more legible. To
